Artist Details:Alastair (Hans Henning Voight) was born in Karlsruhe, Germany and studied philosophy under professor Cohen at the University of Marburg. He had little art training but did spend a year doing anatomical and life drawing. Initially influenced by the drawings of Aubrey Beardsley and other fin de siecle illustrators but his style remains unmistakably original and personal. Between c.1914 and c.1929, he illustrated around 16 books for publishers in England, Germany, France and the USA and contributed to various art periodicals.
