Artist Details:Dimitrios Emmanuel Galanis artist / print-maker, was born in Athens and studied under Nikiforos Lytras at the School of Fine Arts in Athens. He moved to Paris in 1900 and studied at the Beaux-Arts later becoming professor there. Friendship with Picasso and exhibited with him and Matisse and Braque in 1920. In 1922 had his first one-man exhibition in Paris later becoming a member of the Academie Francaise. Lived close to Montmartre for fifty years in a house which is now the Musee Montmartre. He illustrated a number of books, mainly with wood-engravings, for the Limited Editions Club in New York and for the Cresset Press in England among others. The most significant collection of his work is housed at the Teloglion Foundation at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and works held in England at the Tate Gallery.
