Georg Merkel

Published by Rikola Vienna 1922. One of a special edition of 100 copies with an original lithograph in brown ink on hand-made watermarked laid paper signed in pencil by the artist. This copy is an out of series example for the artist and has a presentation inscription by him on the front free end-paper. The book is bound in the original boards, 12 pps. text in German and followed by 15 full page b/w. plates. Studied at the Academy in Krakow,1905-8.moved to Paris 1909-14. To Vienna in the inter war years and became a member of the “Hagenbund” and in 1945 a member of the “Vienna Secession” He died in Vienna in 1976 where a street was named after him. “Merkel Alle”.A copy of “Wiener Kunsthefte”for 1971 is included which has an article on the exhibition held in Vienna on his 90th. birthday.
