In 1900 Sydney Lee RA. exhibited his first painting at the RA Summer Exhibition. He was an experimental print maker in etching and coloured woodcuts. This water-colour is the study from which the coloured woodcut entitled “The Sloop Inn” was made in 1904. He exhibited at the Fine Art Society; RE;NEAC; and the RA. and his work is held in a number of public collections including Tate Gallery. Ref.
