Alexandre Louis Marie Charpentier born in Paris, studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts under Hubert Ponscarme. He was a founder member of L’Art dans tout and published coloured gaufrage lithographs in the art nouveau style. Gaufrage is when plaster relief blocks are used to emboss the surface of the print to create a three dimensional effect. His flat colours were much influenced by the Japanese printmakers.
