Aristide. Maillol.

Aristide Maillol born in southern France near Perpignon, moved to Paris to study and came under the influence of Maurice Denis and the Nabis school and especially the early work of Paul Gaugin. Although known mainly as a sculptor and painter, he produced a number of lithographs and even more woodcuts to illustrate books which were often printed on special paper with the Maillol water-mark. Like most Livre des Artistes, extra suites of prints were issued apart from the ordinary editions of the books.
