Armand Coussens was a French painter and print maker born in 1881 at Saint-Ambroix (Gard) and studied at the School of Fine Art at Nimes under Alexis Lahaye. 1900-1907 contributed work to the French art periodicals such as Cocorico, L’Assiette au Beurre, Le Rire and Le Cri de Paris. Influenced by the artist Jean Francois Raffaelli and also by the post impressionists. In 1908 he became professor of drawing at Nimes and in 1912 began an active career in print making especially etching and aquatint in colours. By the time he stopped engraving (1933) he had executed some 208 prints. Articles on his work appeared in The Studio Magazine in England and in Byblis in France. Examples of his work are held at the Luxembourg Museum and at the Nimes Museum among others.
