August Bromse studied in Prague and Berlin and was influenced by the German artist Max Klinger. His early work portrayed a style of decadent symbolism such as his series ‘The Girl and Death’ published in 1902. Painter and etcher, he contributed etchings to leading German and Austrian art periodicals in the first decade of the 20th. century. He became head of the print studio in the Prague Academy and died in Prague in 1925.
