Auguste Brouet was born in Paris in Montmarte and apprenticed to a firm of lithographic printers. He attended evening classes in drawing under Kignolet and at the age of 16, entered the Ecole Des Beaux-Arts under Elie Delauney and later under Gustave Moreau. Studied etching with the master printer Auguste Delatre and became a book illustrator for various firms using etchings almost exclusively.
