Charles Martin was born in Montpellier, France and studied at the Montpellier Ecole des Beaux Arts. He moved to Paris and studied at the Academie Julian and at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Became a contributor to early 20th.cent. fashion magazines including Gazette du Bon Ton, Modes et Manieres d’Arjourd’hui, Journal Des Dames et Des Modes and to Vogue. Many of his prints were Art Deco in style and published in pouchoir (hand-coloured through stencils).
