Conrad Felixmuller.
Conrad Felixmuller was born in Dresden and studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule of the Dresdner Kunstakademie. He was a founder member of the Dresdner Gruppe in 1919 and contributed Expressionist woodcuts to socialist magazines such as “Sturm”, “Action” and “Menschen”. His political activities resulted in his work being exhibited in the “Entarteten Kunst”(degenerate art) show of 1937. In 1949 he was appointed a teacher at the Universitat Halle and he moved to Berlin in 1961. He was a master of all the graphic mediums but especially woodcuts which he continued to make up until the end of his life. Ref: Gerhard Sohn. Das Graphische Werk 1912-1974. ditto 1975-1977 (2 volumes).
