Bouverie Hoyton trained at Goldsmiths College under Malcolm Osborne and Stanley Anderson. He won the Prix de Rome in 1926 while staying in Italy. In 1934 he became a lecturer at Leeds College of Art and later Principal of the Penzance School of Art, 1941-1965. Elected F.R.S.A. in 1958. His etched work was influenced by F.L.Griggs and Samuel Palmer and his subjects were mainly landscapes of the West Country and views in Italy although he did execute a few portraits.
