Gerard Paul Cochet was born in Avranches and studied at the Academie Julien in Paris. He was a painter and print maker of etchings, wood-engraving and lithographs used also as book illustrations. He exhibited widely including at the Peintres Graveurs Francais and the Salon de la Jeune Gravure Contemporaine of which he was a founder member. In 1924 he won the Prix Florence Blumenthal de la Gravure and from 1932 until 1935, taught at the Academie Ranson.
