George Heywood Maunoir Sumner born in Alresford, Hampshire studied at Oxford and at Lincoln’s Inn, London. He was an all-round artist in the Arts and Crafts School being a book illustrator, etcher, designer of stained-glass and wallpaper and in later life, an archaeologist of some note writing books on the subject.An exhibition showing all aspects of his work was held in Winchester City Museum in 1986.
