James Joshua Guthrie born in Glasgow was founder and owner of the Pear Tree Press and published his own and others poems and writings usually illustrated by himself. His work was influenced by Blake, Palmer and Calvert in essence but his style remained his own. He also printed his own books and prints and developed his individual methods of etching and engraving in his plate printing. A good reference can be found in The Private Library second series Vol.9:1 spring 1976 by Colin Franklin.
