Karl Rossing was born in Gmunden in Austria and studied illustration under F.H.Ehmcke at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Munich 1913-17. He taught wood-engraving at the Folkwangschule in Essen between 1922-1931. From 1934 until 1944 he taught painting and drawing as well as wood-engraving at the Staatl.Hochschule fur Kunsterziehung in Berlin. He was a prolific illustrator of books with wood-engravings especially in the 1920’s but he also used coloured lino-cuts in later years. Ref: catalogue by E.Rucker lists some 441 items (1981).
