Artist
Paul Cezanne
Paul Cezanne, the impressionist painter, was born in Aix-en- Provence in the South of France. Emile Zola introduced Cezanne to Manet and Courbet and persuaded him to study at the Academie Suisse where, in 1861, he met Camille Pissarro. In 1872, a friend, Doctor Gachet, bought a house in Auvers-sur-Oise where the friends, Cezanne, Pissarro and Guillaumin met to etch. It was here at Gachet’s that Cezanne made his only five etchings, all in 1873.
