Pierre Bonnard, painter, print-maker, book illustrator and poster designer was born in Fontenay-aux-Roses in 1867. As a post impressionist he was a founder member of the ‘Les Nabis’ group of painters. He attended classes at Academie Julian in Paris in the 1880’s. In 1888 he was accepted by the Ecole des Beaux-Arts where he met Vuillard and K.X.Roussel In 1891 he exhibited with the Societe des Artistes Independants and contributed lithographs to La Revue Blanche. He illustrated many books mainly with original graphics and designed many of the finest art nouveau posters of the 1890’s. Solo exhibitions of his works have been held all over the world in many public and private galleries which also hold collections of his works.
