Richard Henry Brock, son of Edmund Brock, younger brother of Charles Edmund and older brother of Henry Matthew Brock was born in Colney Hatch, London in 1871. He shared a studio with his brothers who were both illustrators but was mainly known as a landscape painter in oils. He also illustrated children’s (mainly boys) annuals such as Blackie’s Boys Annual and others including The Prize and Chatterbox annuals (1908-25) and Punch 1916-17. He illustrated books in later life including Uncle Tom’s Cabin and The Pilgrims Progress among others. Exhibited RA; 1901-13. RI also Liverpool and Manchester. He died in Brentford, London in 1943 aged 71.
