Artist
Aubrey Beardsley
Aubrey Vincent Beardsley illustrated books and magazines in his short life starting with the Le Morte d’Arthur in 1893. Although he did no original graphics he was a master of the line block used in illustration of the 1890’s. He was Art Editor of the Yellow Book (the first four numbers) and Art Editor of The Savoy magazine. Perhaps his most famous illustrated book was “Salome” by Oscar Wilde published in 1894. Many of his drawings were of an erotic nature but always tinged with great humour as in his illustrations to The Lysistrata of Aristophanes.
