Drawn on a sheet of white wove paper to the sheet edges on the left-hand side and with a printed text affixed to the right-hand side. The finished book was published by Andre Deutsch in 1976. This illustration was unused but in an interview given in 1976 the artist states “The story came into my head just like that” and goes on to say that “I did the drawings five or six times . If you make just a little alteration in the text, you have to make several changes in the illustrations”. The illustration of the Djinn asleep in the bottle is quite like the published illustration on page 12 of the book.
