John Austen

Painted by the artist on a piece of buff coloured card c.34 x 22 cm. in grey, blue and red and titled in black. John Austen was a prolific illustrator of books,c.1920-1940. He wrote “The ABC of Pen and Ink Rendering” (1937) and was initially a follower of the style of Aubrey Beardsley. He shared an exhibition in 1925 with Harry Clarke and Alan Odle.
