Drawn on a sheet of white wove paper c.26 x 17.5 cm. with instructions as to colour separations for the printed reproduction written in pencil in the lower margin by the artist. Lynton Harold Lamb (Larry to his friends) was a prolific illustrator and designer of book jackets working in wood-engraving. lithography and pen & ink and water-colour as here. His work appeared from c. 1930 to 1970 and was published by private presses and commercial publishers including The Golden Cockerel Press. He studied under Bernard Meninsky (painting) Noel Rooke (wood-engraving and book illustration) A.S.Hatrick (lithography) at the Central School of Arts and Crafts.
