Printed in black ink on fine white wove sheet size c.26 x 19 cm. with engraved letter press below image. signed W Blake sc. and H.Fuseli R A inv. As first published by J.Johnson 1795 in the third edition of Erasmus Darwins Botanic Garden. This example appears to be a printers proof as the published edition is printed in a brownish ink on somewhat heavier paper stock. As well as illustrating his own books Blake also engraved after other artists and in some works are elements of his own designs as here. More examples by this artist in stock including another one as above but in the usual publishes version ie. in brownish ink on heavier wove.
